Step One is filling in an application, either for a specific animal you have seen or for us to match you with your ideal pet

2

Step Two is an interview with a member of the Wonky Heart Animal Haven team to follow up and get some more details

3

Step Three is a home check, to make sure that you and your home is safe and prepared for your new family member. We're here to help.

4

Step Four is a meet and greet between the whole family and the pet or pets that you are interested in.

At Wonky Heart's Animal Haven, we do our best to match make and find the perfect fit for both your needs as well as the adoptable animals'. If you're looking to add a whole lot of love and joy to your family, the process starts here...

Why We Only Adopt Locally

The lifelong wellbeing of the animals in our care is of our upmost priority and every decision we make is with them in mind. Each animal that enters our care has the lifelong assurance that they will always have a home or safe haven and that our resources are always available to them. In order to best keep this promise, local adoptions are in their best interest for easy access back into our care if needed or medical assistance with our qualified and expansive team of veterinarians and specialists. We believe that shelter animals all over the US deserve their chance at a forever home and that looking locally should be every adopters priority. There is no shortage of available pets! For this reason, we do not see the need to expand our adoption radius for healthy, normal family pets outside of Southern California. This also eliminates the need for unnecessary, high stress situations such as in travel.

Certain, unique circumstances may qualify consideration for an expanded adoption radius, most typically to Northern California. While each scenario varies, this may be considered for involved special needs cases, behavioral cases, or long term residents who would thrive beyond our care elsewhere. Most pets who have been in our care for longer than 6 months are available for adoption in all of Southern California rather than our standard 2 hour driving radius of Orange County. Please note, however, that adopters would be responsible for traveling on two separate occasions. Firstly, to meet interested pet and, secondly, for adoption pick up. We do not conduct same day adoptions on days of meet & greets. For special needs or medical cases, adopters must have access to emergency and specialty care local and accessible to them to be considered for out of range adoption. Each case and each decision is weighed based on the unique needs of the animal in question and our mission and priority will always have them at the forefront of our decision making.

If you are not local, we love and appreciate you none the less from afar! We know that your perfect companion is out there, locally. Thank you for being here and supporting the work that we do and place our whole hearts into.
